While China is a major player in the DR Congo’s mining sector, that is not the case elsewhere on the continent, according to a new report by the African Climate Foundation.
In fact, China’s share of the continent’s total mining output was just 6.7% in 2018, and beyond the DRC, that figure likely hasn’t changed substantially. This data challenges perceptions that China’s share of the continent’s mining sector is much larger than it actually is. In fact, European, Australian, Canadian, and U.S. companies dominate the market.
