The bulk of the continent’s 4G networks were built with Huawei networking equipment, more Transsion phones are sold every year across the continent than from any other brand and now Chinese companies are playing an increasingly dominant role in online services from mobile money (OPay) to music (Boomplay) to short-form video-sharing platforms (Vskit & TikTok).
But Chinese technology in Africa is also very controversial amid mounting concerns over espionage, surveillance, and data management. No one covers China-Africa tech more than CAP.
