Amid Escalating Violence in South Africa, Chinese Embassy Warns Its Citizens To Take Urgent Precautions

The Chinese embassy in Pretoria is warning all Chinese nationals in South Africa to take immediate precautions to protect themselves and their businesses from the rapidly deteriorating security situation in KwaZulu-Natal province and other regions around the country.

“The property of overseas Chinese has suffered losses and personal safety is seriously threatened,” said the statement on the embassy’s website and sent to followers of its official WeChat channel. The embassy also recommended that the local Chinese community should form joint defense groups to better protect themselves (侨社侨胞间要加强联防联保) and share information among one another.
