“We Need to Do More” to Challenge China in the Global South, Says Washington’s No. 2 Diplomat

The second in command at the U.S. State Department told the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on Tuesday that the United States has to step up to compete more effectively with China around the world.

China is the “defining geopolitical challenge confronting modern American diplomacy,” said U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell. “We need to do more,” he cautioned in a nearly two-hour appearance on Capitol Hill.
