U.S. Revokes Visas for Chilean Officials Over China Cable Project

The U.S. State Department announced travel restrictions on Chile’s Transport and Telecommunications Minister, Juan Carlos Muñoz, and two other officials in connection with a proposed undersea data cable project with China.

In a short statement ascribed released on Friday, the U.S. government said “it has taken steps to impose visa restrictions on three Chilean government officials who knowingly […] compromised critical telecommunications infrastructure and undermined regional security in our hemisphere. These individuals and their immediate family members will be generally ineligible for entry into the United States, and any U.S. visas held by them have been revoked.”
