The Bangladeshi media is reporting that China has “agreed in principle” to extend the repayment period of a loan from 20 to 30 years. This follows a meeting between Bangladesh’s Foreign Adviser, Touhid Hossain, and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday.

Bangladesh pressed China to also lower interest rates and waive commitment fees on certain concessional loans. Wang reportedly agreed to look into these issues. Post-revolutionary Bangladesh is pursuing closer ties with China while pressuring India to extradite its former ruler, Sheikh Hasina.
