China Removed Barrier Blocking Entrance to Contested Shoal in South China Sea, Says Philippine Coast Guard

The China Coast Guard removed a controversial barrier that blocked the entrance to the disputed Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea.

The barrier was reportedly placed there sometime in late December, and according to Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) satellite images, the obstruction was no longer visible as of last Thursday.
