Video Appears of 9 Chinese Miners Arrested For Illegally Mining in Congo’s Far Eastern Ituri Province

The far eastern province of Ituri is emerging as one of the major hubs of illegal Chinese mining in the DR Congo where an unknown number of Chinese migrants and companies are operating without permits.

A video surfaced today that was reportedly shot last Saturday featuring FARDC Colonel Maxime Mpombwa Thsishimbi (photo) explaining how his forces arrested a group of Chinese miners in Mambasa who were all allegedly engaging in illegal mining activities and did not have any visa or immigration papers to prove they were permitted to be in the country.
