Late last week the Zambian Labor Minister Chanda Kaziya met with Ouyang Daobing, the commercial and economic officer at the Chinese embassy in Lusaka, to discuss the recent crackdown on Chinese businesses by mayor Miles Sampa.
Mayor Sampa personally intervened to shut down various Chinese businesses in the capital that were reportedly discriminating against local patrons. However, the mayor didn’t only upset the local Chinese business community, but seemingly also high ranking national officials who apparently forced Sampa to make a humiliating public apology for those raids.
