Representative Benjamin Kalu: “We Want to Know How Many Chinese Are in Nigeria”

Nigerian Representative Benjamin Kalu appeared on Plus TV to discuss the motion he submitted in the House of Representatives calling for immigration checks of every Chinese national in the country.

  • [1:59] STARTING WITH CHINESE: “What COVID has done is that it’s changing the dynamics, changing the narrative, one of which is that it’s time we started to do the enumeration of certain things going on in this country that we do not have access to. One of them is information as to the total number of immigrants in our country. We are starting with China now because China started with the blacks and especially the Nigerians in China. We want to know how many Chinese are in Nigeria. We want to know how many of them are legal in Nigeria. We want to know how many legal businesses operated by Chinese people in Nigeria and that will help us to know if they are complying with the law.”
  • [2:47] ILLEGAL CHINESE LABOR?:  “Are they bringing people to do the jobs Nigerian people are supposed to do? When we see Chinese people doing “gate work,” cook and the rest of them, we want to know what informed their decision to bring [these workers to Nigeria] and what is immigration doing about it?”
  • [3:44] NOT ANTI-CHINESE:  “This is not fighting against China. This is about preserving the integrity or the sovereignty of this nation. The pride and the dignity of this nation. We also want to clean up, the same way they’re cleaning up, as we’re bringing our people back home they should be ready to be bringing their people back home who do not have COVID but who are here illegally.”
