Insiders Dismiss Rumored Cell C-China Mobile Deal

Cell C is an unlisted mobile telecommunications company in South Africa that has 17.2 million subscribers, according to Blue Label.

Well-placed sources” are refuting last week’s reports that South Africa’s embattled #3 mobile carrier is in late-stage talks to be acquired by China Mobile.

The prospect of a Chinese state-owned telecoms company buying into the South African market prompted widespread speculation that a deal was near but now it appears that Cell C is focusing its efforts on securing an expanding roaming agreement with marketing MTN.
