Chinese President Xi Jinping landed in the Vietnamese capital Hanoi on Tuesday to begin a high-profile two-day visit that is laced with geopolitical symbolism.

Xi was greeted at the airport by Prime Minister Phạm Minh Chính who accompanied the president across town to meet with Vietnam’s powerful Communist Party General-Secretary Nguyễn Phú Trọng.
