U.S.-Philippine Talks Amid Rising China Tensions

The president of the Philippines, Ferdinand Marcos Jr., met with U.S. President Joe Biden on Monday amid rising tensions with China in the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea.

Security cooperation topped the agenda in the form of shared defense guidelines and equipment, as well as a broad focus on interoperability. “The United States also remains ironclad in our commitment to the defense of the Philippines, including in the South China Sea,” Biden said.
