Saudi Looks to Team Up With China to Build EV Supply Chain, From Metals to Manufacturing

POST TRANSLATION: My official visit to China began with a tour of the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, where I learned about their experience in setting up industrial cities. I also visited GAC and met with FOTON to discuss opportunities to enhance industrial cooperation and exchange expertise and knowledge, especially in the manufacture of high-tech cars.

Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Industry and Mineral Resources Bandar Ibrahim Alkhorayef arrived in Guangzhou last week, a midway stop in an Asian tour that he hopes will help the Kingdom to become a major player in the burgeoning electric vehicle industry.

Alkhorayef focused the bulk of his time in the southern Chinese commercial hub meeting with major automakers like FOTON and GAC Motors to learn about their production methods. The minister hopes to leverage China’s experience to help the Kingdom manufacture half-a-million EVs a year by 2030.
