Indonesia 2024 Presidential Election Infographic: Candidates Debate South-South Cooperation, South China Sea, and Foreign Debts

In four weeks, Indonesians will head to the polls. Indonesia’s elections body, the General Elections Commission, is hosting a total of five presidential debates during the campaign season for the candidates to discuss a wide range of topics.

The three presidential candidates — Anies Baswedan, Prabowo Subianto, and Ganjar Pranowo — rarely talk about China so far. Even though the third presidential debate, held on January 7th, raised questions on defense, security, international relations, and geopolitics, China was seemingly mentioned in passing. Foreign relations experts were disappointed, saying that the candidates failed to address how Indonesia will position itself amid rivalry between the world’s superpowers.
