China Opposes Targeting of Iran’s New Supreme Leader

China has pushed back against threats directed at Iran’s newly appointed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, signaling Beijing’s support for Tehran’s sovereignty as tensions remain high following the killing of his father, former leader Ali Khamenei, in U.S.–Israeli strikes.

Chinese officials said Iran’s leadership transition is an internal matter and warned against outside interference or assassination threats.
