Voting has concluded in the final round of national elections in Myanmar. The vote is widely expected to entrench the power of the ruling military junta, which took power in 2021 after ousting Aung San Suu Kyi’s democratic government.

The integrity of the election has been widely criticized, as the election continued amid an ongoing civil war and a wider climate of fear and uncertainty. The UN called the election a “sham,” and reported instances of forced voting, while major opposition parties are not allowed to participate. The junta won the first two rounds by wide margins.
