The Pentagon has reportedly flagged the Chinese e-commerce company Alibaba, the electric vehicle leader BYD, and the search engine provider Baidu for inclusion on a list of companies that assist the Chinese military. The decision was reportedly made before the recent talks between Presidents Xi and Trump. It’s not clear whether they have been officially added to the 1260H list of companies seen as possessing military links but still operating in the U.S. Inclusion on the list doesn’t automatically trigger bans, but it does raise scrutiny of these companies. India lodged a protest with China following the 18-hour detention of an Indian national during a layover in Shanghai. She was reportedly told that her Indian passport was invalid because she was born in Arunachal Pradesh, which Chinese authorities see as a part of China. Indian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the incident was “most unhelpful towards efforts being made by both sides to build mutual trust and understanding and gradually move towards normalization of bilateral relations.” China’s Foreign Ministry denied that the traveler was mistreated.
