Chinese President Xi Jinping met with his Ghanaian counterpart, John Dramani Mahama, on Tuesday, 14 October. It was one of several meetings on the sidelines of the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women earlier this week, where Xi called for greater gender equity in global governance.

The meeting with Mahama reportedly focused on finalizing a zero-tariff trade deal, following China’s announcement that the remaining tariffs on most African imports would be scrapped. While this was announced for the whole of Africa, implementing the zero-tariff trade seems to be happening on a country-by-country basis.
