The Philippine government has signed a $700 million FA-50 jets contract with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) for the purchase of 12 new FA-50 Block 20 light combat aircraft, expanding its current fleet as it seeks to bolster its air defense posture in the South China Sea amid growing Chinese assertiveness and uncertainty over a stalled U.S. fighter jet offer.

Philippines FA-50 jet deal, set for delivery between 2026 and 2030, will feature upgraded capabilities including Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar, aerial refuelling systems, and enhanced weapon integration.
