China Beams Approval of Indian PM’s Comments

China responded favorably to comments by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi that emphasized friendly relations between the Asian powers. Speaking with U.S. podcaster Lex Fridman, Modi characterized the relationship as “a ballet between the dragon and the elephant” aiming for mutual success and noted that they have a long history of ensuring that “differences do not turn into disputes.”

China’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning said China “appreciates” the statements and that “China stands ready to work with India to implement the important common understandings between the two leaders,” referring to a historic meeting between Modi and China’s President Xi Jinping in October.
