Vietnamese automaker VinFast is making a major push into Indonesia’s electric vehicle EV sector with a planned $1.2 billion investment, including a $200 million EV manufacturing plant in West Java and an EV charging network worth up to $1 billion.

The announcement came during a visit by Vietnam’s Communist Party General Secretary, To Lam, who met with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto in Jakarta to discuss regional security and economic cooperation. This comes as China continues to dominate Indonesia’s EV industry, controlling key supply chains and production.
