Chinese President Xi Jinping framed the intensification of Beijing’s relationship with Thailand as a joint buffer against global disruption. Following his meeting with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, he said: “In the face of unprecedented changes not seen for 100 years, China and Thailand should deepen mutual trust over strategic interests and firmly support each other,” according to CCTV.

Paetongtarn highlighted new joint anti-crime measures prompted by ongoing scandals around the trafficking of Chinese nationals to scam centers on the Thai border: “Thailand is willing to strengthen law enforcement cooperation with China and other neighboring countries and take resolute and effective measures to combat cross-border crimes such as online gambling and fraud.”
