New data tracking the number of cargo containers traveling from China to Mexico fuels suspicions that Chinese exporters are sidestepping U.S. sanctions by shipping goods to the Central American country, which are then brought over the border tariff-free.

Chinese exports to Mexico surged by 60% in January compared to the same time last year, according to figures from the European data analytics firm Xeneta.
