Xue Bing, China’s special envoy for the Horn of Africa, traveled to Eritrea on Friday for talks with President Isaias Afwerki.

The Chinese envoy arrived in Asmara just after visiting Eritrea’s rival Ethiopia, but there’s no indication from the readout of Xue’s discussions with President Afwerki that the two discussed the burgeoning tensions between the two East African countries over access to the Red Sea.
