Xi Congratulates New Maldives President, Promises Closer Ties

Chinese President Xi Jinping congratulated Mohamed Muizzu on Tuesday on his election as president of the small Indian Ocean archipelago state and pledged to forge closer ties.

Meanwhile, Muizzu isn’t wasting any time in pushing forward with his campaign promises to re-orient Maldive’s foreign policy away from India and towards China.
