New Data Reveals Small Increase in Chinese Lending to Countries in Latin America and the Caribbean

China is once again extending development finance loans to countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, albeit only a small fraction of what it lent to the region a decade ago.

Brazil, Barbados and Guyana received a total of $813 million from China Development Bank and the Export-Import Bank of China last year, according to a new report published by the Washington, D.C.-based think tank Inter-American Dialogue and the Global Development Policy Center at Boston University.
