Chinese merchants in South Africa’s KwaZulu-Natal province are digging through the rubble of their looted stores and burned out factories following last week’s spasm of mass violence that left more than 200 people dead and caused $1+ billion in property damage.
While there is no evidence to suggest that Chinese shops and factories were specifically targeted by looters, they certainly weren’t spared either. Now that the situation has calmed, some merchants are going back to their shops for the first time to see what’s left of their businesses.
