U.S. Congressional Report: Africa is a “Cornerstone” of China’s Ambition to Revise the International Order

The U.S.-China Economic and Security Review Commission (aka USCC), a congressionally-mandated U.S. government commission, submitted its annual report to Congress on Tuesday. The report provides a broad overview of how the United States perceives geostrategic competition with China across a variety of spheres including economic competition, diplomacy, and technology.

This year, for the first time, the commission dedicated an entire section to exploring “China’s strategic aims in Africa.” The 45-page analysis goes into extensive detail about China’s growing military presence on the continent, the expansion of the Digital Silk Road, and Chinese debt financing in Africa, among other topics.
