China’s newly-arrived ambassador to Kenya, Zhou Pingjian, met on Tuesday with Kenya’s defense chief, Monica Juma, at the military headquarters at Ulinzi House.
The Chinese embassy in Nairobi did not publish any statement on the meeting so it’s not entirely clear what the ambassador discussed with the Cabinet Secretary. Broadly speaking, China’s military ties with Kenya are nowhere near as robust as those between Kenya and the United States. Nonetheless, Kenya may see China as an alternative supplier of more affordable, high-technology weapons.
