Despite his best efforts, the CNBC Africa journalist Karabo Lethlhatlha wasn’t successful in getting the Acting Director of the United States Trade and Development Agency, Thomas R. Hardy, to comment on China. In an interview that was nominally about Washington’s efforts to expand investment in Africa, Lethlhatlha, host of the program Political Capital, tried to get Hardy’s take on whether he felt the United States had effectively fallen behind China in Africa. Hardy didn’t bite and instead spoke at length about why he thinks the U.S. is well-positioned in Africa today.
