The latest indication that U.S. sanctions against Chinese telecom giant Huawei are having impact comes today from South Africa where the company announced that it will postpone the launch of one of its new flagship devices, the Mate 30 Pro.
According to Huawei CBG South Africa General Manager Likun Zhao, the company is apparently not satisfied with its alternative operating system to Google’s Android OS. The U.S. put Huawei on a so-called “entity list” which prevents U.S. companies like Google from selling or otherwise allowing Huawei to use its software. Huawei has said it will build its own operating system to replace Android, but clearly that’s taking longer than the company had initially expected.
