South Africa is going to be an important test market for Huawei with next month’s launch of the P40 Series of mobile phones that will not include Google Mobile Service apps. It’s important to note that the phones will still run on Google’s Android operating system but will not feature popular apps like Google Maps, Search and YouTube among others.
The move to launch products without Google Mobile Service apps is in response to U.S. restrictions imposed last year on the Chinese telecom company. The new P40 Series is scheduled to debut in South Africa in March and will instead feature Huawei Mobile Services, or HMS, apps.
