In the three weeks since the U.S. government announced it would release some of its surplus supply of Astra Zeneca COVID-19 vaccines to Mexico and Canada and indicated that Washington was finally ready to challenge China’s dominance in global vaccine deliveries, there’s been no visible progress.
In that same time period, Chinese vaccine deliveries to Africa, the Middle East, the Americas, and Central Europe among other regions appear to have gained significant speed. In fact, in just the past few days alone, Chinese vaccine shipments have landed in places as diverse as Papua New Guinea, Somalia, the Palestinian territories, Jordan, El Salvador, and Lebanon among dozens of other destinations.
