Earlier this month, on May 13, Nigerian representative Ben Rollands Igbakpa introduced a motion that was passed by the House calling for an investigation into all of the country’s loans from China dating back to 2000.

Representative Igbakpa claimed that, because the legislature had not been involved nor had the chance to review billions of dollars of Chinese loans, it’s appropriate to employ the force majeure clause in the contracts to terminate them if irregularities are discovered.
