Say what you want about the Chinese but there’s no denying they are damned good at getting stuff done.

The sight of a big beautiful new train on freshly laid tracks in Lagos yesterday was something to behold. The Chinese-financed and constructed Lagos to Ibadan standard gauge railway made its maiden voyage and generated a huge amount of excitement that, after years of planning and delays, Nigeria finally has a modern railway of its own.
