The United States’ near-unconditional support of Israel in the ongoing Gaza war has done immense damage to Washington’s standing among Arab publics in 16 countries surveyed by the Arab Barometer research network.

Declining public approval of the U.S. is leading to significantly higher positive perceptions of China, according to the new poll data released on Wednesday. “Despite offering limited material and rhetorical support for Gaza, China has been the primary beneficiary of the United States’ decline in reputation among Arab publics,” said a trio of Arab Barometer lead researchers in an article summarizing their findings published in Foreign Affairs.
