The Summit of the Americas will get underway on Monday in Los Angeles and, remarkably, less than 24 hours before the event begins no one’s really sure precisely how many leaders will actually attend.
The key holdout right now is Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador who’s joined other regional leaders in protest against the U.S. decision to not invite Cuba, Nicaragua, and Venezuela to participate. Meantime, the White House, for its part, is showing no signs of backing down to allow leaders from its trio of rivals to attend.
