China Calls for “Urgent” Ceasefire and Reopening of Hormuz Strait

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said a lasting ceasefire in the Middle East is an “urgent priority,” and that the Strait of Hormuz should be opened “as soon as possible.”

This follows talks with Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, in Beijing on Wednesday. The talks come amid reports that the United States and Iran are honing in on a one-page memorandum of understanding to end the war.
