WEEK IN REVIEW: Taiwan Says China Cannot Block Its Africa Ties

Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong met with her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi on Wednesday in Beijing as part of the annual strategic dialogue. Wong pressed China to ease jet fuel export restrictions, while Wang called on Australia for greater support for “multilateralism,” though for China, that usually means countering the U.S. (ABC NEWS)

China hit back at the U.S. on Wednesday in response to Washington’s accusation that Beijing is violating Panama’s sovereignty. “Who occupied the Panama Canal for a long time, invaded Panama with its military, and arbitrarily trampled on its sovereignty and dignity?” spokesperson Lin Jian asked rhetorically. “The answer is self-evident,” he added. (ASSOCIATED PRESS)
