China appears to have played a more important role in the Iran cease-fire push than Beijing is publicly admitting, with Donald Trump saying he believed China helped bring Tehran to the table and Chinese officials later saying they had made their “own efforts” to support a truce.

Reporting from multiple outlets suggests Beijing’s influence came less through public mediation than through last-minute pressure on an economically vulnerable Iran.
