Just a day after the Philippines and China resumed high-level talks over the disputed South China Sea, China conducted naval, air, and coast guard patrols around the Scarborough Shoal in the South China Sea on Sunday, its military and Coast Guard said.

The shoal is in the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone, but China also claims it as part of its territory. With the restarted talks, the two countries are exploring preliminary steps toward oil and gas cooperation while addressing energy and fertilizer supply issues amid the ongoing Middle East conflict, the Philippine foreign ministry said.
