The Trump administration warned Peru that the Chinese-built Port of Chancay risks undermining the country’s sovereignty, escalating U.S. pressure over Beijing’s growing infrastructure footprint in Latin America.

U.S. officials have raised concerns that the deep-water megaport, constructed and majority-owned by China’s state-run COSCO Shipping, could expand China’s strategic influence in the region. The warning comes amid heightened scrutiny of Chinese investments in critical logistics hubs across the Western Hemisphere.
