The first shipment of 200,000 tons of iron ore from the massive Simandou iron ore mine departed Guinea on Tuesday. The mine took years of off-and-on development and $24 billion in investment, including in port and rail facilities. China is reportedly training an artificial intelligence system to support its port network. The country’s National Development and Reform Commission said the system is being trained on the world’s largest operational dataset, offering “the most comprehensive range of port business scenarios”. Six out of the world’s ten largest container ports are in China. Ningbo-Zhoushan port alone moved forty million shipping containers in 2025. (SOUTH CHINA MORNING POST)
