Chinese Exports to Africa Soar

The flow of Chinese goods to African countries has increased markedly as trade barriers rise elsewhere. Exports are reportedly up 25% year-on-year to $122 billion, more than the whole of 2020, and total exports to the continent are expected to pass the $200 billion mark this year for the first time.

The growth reveals how the global economy is changing in the face of rising protectionism in the G7. It also shows how the Global South is taking up a more central role, as export powers like China try to find new markets.
