China reiterated its long-term support for a Palestinian state this week, adding its voice to recent statements from the United Kingdom, Canada, and France that they could formally recognize statehood at the UN General Assembly.

China’s special envoy to the Middle East, Zhai Jun, called for greater international efforts towards a two-state solution at a conference on Israel-Palestine issues at the UN headquarters on Tuesday. He called for a ceasefire and the alleviation of the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the Israeli blockading of food aid to the region.
