U.S. Approves $5.58 Billion Fighter-Jet Sale to Philippines Amid Regional Tensions

The U.S. State Department said it was green-lighting the sale of 20 F-16 fighter jets and related equipment to the Philippines. The jets will be built by Lockheed Martin and the $5.58 billion sale also includes missiles and radar systems.

The announcement comes days after U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth visited the Philippines, where he said the U.S. plans to provide anti-ship missile systems and autonomous vehicles for use in joint drills planned for next month. The U.S. sold 12 F-16s to Manila in 2021.
