Indonesia’s Coal Production Hits Record in 2024, with China Driving the Growth

Indonesia’s coal production hit a new high in 2024, reaching 831.6 million tons, 17% above the target. This boost is largely thanks to strong demand from China, the world’s biggest coal importer, along with other key markets in ASEAN.

While Indonesia didn’t quite meet its export target, shipping 436 million tons instead of the planned 490 million tons, domestic demand remained solid.
