Chinese officials will attend meetings in Bangkok on Thursday and Friday aimed at crafting regional solutions to the crisis in Myanmar. The two meetings are seen as a bold attempt from Thailand to resolve the crisis, which is threatening the ruling military junta’s grip on the country.

One meeting will gather representatives from Myanmar’s neighboring countries (China, India, Bangladesh, Laos, and Thailand) while the second will gather foreign ministers from the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). It will be hosted by outgoing ASEAN chair Laos. Myanmar’s Foreign Minister U Than Swe will attend.
