The Philippines will continually deploy vessels to the Sabina Shoal, said the country’s coast guard. The announcement came as a coast guard vessel returned from a five-month stint in the contested region.

Philippine Coast Guard spokesperson Jay Tarriela told reporters: “We will sustain presence over these waters.” He also denied that the BRP Teresa Magbanua was withdrawn in response to Chinese demands, saying it returned for repairs and to provide medical care for its crew.
